All applicants must follow the application and
audition procedures outlined in this section. An incomplete application
or lack of payment of application fees will stop the application process.
Decisions regarding admission and financial aid will be made and students
will be notified in May. Follow the steps below:

Notice for students from the USA
Passport Information
Since January 23, 2007, a new American law requires everyone entering the United States BY AIR to have a valid passport.
If you are unable to obtain a passport consider flying to Seattle and bussing to Vancouver/Powell River as US citizents can continue to use such documents as their birth certificates and drivers' license to cross the Canada-U.S. border BY LAND AND SEA for at least another year.
Application Deadline and Fees

Applications postmarked after May 30th will only be considered subject
to availability.
The application fee is required of all applicants. It is non-refundable
and not applicable toward other SOAP fees.
Applicants will receive notification of their acceptance by e-mail,
mail or telephone not later than May 15, 2007.
Application fee: $60 CAD
All fees are payable in Canadian funds. Foreign
students not paying by credit card should obtain an International Money
Order in Canadian dollars for the payment of fees. All cheques must
be payable to the Powell River Academy of Music (SOAP).
Audition Requirements
Two contrasting art songs and two arias one of which should be from the role you are applying for.
Please send along with your application a clearly labelled video(VHS), audio cassette, CD, MD or DAT or mp3 files which includes the required repertoire.
Acceptance Procedure
Upon acceptance to SOAP, an official letter of acceptance and housing
preference materials will be sent to the student. In order to reserve
his/her place in SOAP, a student must return the following within 21
days of the notification of acceptance date:

tuition deposit of $300 CAD
(non-refundable, applicable toward tuition fees)

housing deposit of $400 CAD (if
applicable)

housing preference forms
Scholarship/bursary awards and program acceptance may be forfeited
if appropriate forms have not been returned by the end of the twenty-one-day
period.
Enrollment Fees
Tuition and all fees are due June 1, 2007. Tuition includes all rehearsals
and performances, master classes, private lessons, audition training, forums and entrance to all SOAP concerts.
All fees are payable in Canadian funds. Foreign students not paying
by credit card should obtain an International Money Order in Canadian
dollars for the payment of fees. All cheques should be made payable
to the Powell River Academy of Music (SOAP) Once a student has made
a deposit or registered, fees (including tuition and housing and meals)
are nonrefundable.
SOAP reserves the right to expel any student for violations of SOAP
policy, city ordinances, or provincial law without refunding any fees
paid.
Tuition and Housing and Meal Fees
Housing
Students are placed in SOAP housing on a first-come,
first-served basis according to the order in which the housing preference
form and housing deposit are received. Room and roommate requests are
assigned on a priority basis, but no guarantees can be made. The dorm/hostel
facilities are staffed by Resident Supervisors.
All students in SOAP housing are required to take the meal plan; there
is no room-only plan. Students electing to live in SOAP housing facilities
are strongly urged to submit the required housing reservation form and
the non-refundable $400 CDN housing deposit immediately upon notification
of acceptance but not later than 21 of the notification of acceptance date. More detailed information will be sent with students’
acceptance materials.
SOAP Transportation
Free bus transportation is provided when necessary to transport
students between accommodation, rehearsal, performance locations
and airport and bus on arrival and departure.
