SOAP Dates

The dates for SOAP are June 19 - July 4, 2012. Students should arrive in Powell River on Monday, June 18 and depart on Thursday, July 5.

Application Procedure

Orchestra sections are filled as qualified players are accepted. Early application is recommended. Once a section is filled qualified applicants are put on a wait list.

All applicants must follow the application and audition procedures outlined in this section. An incomplete application or lack of payment of the application fee will stop the application process. Admissions will notify students of the results after receipt of material and the audition committee has made their decisions.

  1. Complete the on-line Application Form and press "send".

  2. Submit the $70 CAD application fee. Download and print the SOAP Payment Form (pdf) and Fax to +604 485 2055

    NOTE: The application fee of $70 CAD is required of all applicants. It is non-refundable and not applicable toward other SOAP fees. The application fee is payable in Canadian funds. Foreign students not paying by credit card should obtain an International Money Order in Canadian dollars (CAD) for the payment of fees. All cheques must be payable to the Powell River Academy of Music (SOAP).

  3. Send/e-mail a current résumé (required of all applicants)

  4. Send required audition repertoire via media files (such as MP3, MP4, AAC) or a CD, DVD, or MD. Applicants can also choose to upload their audition to YouTube and send us the link (for more information click here) For required audition repertoire for your instrument click Audition Requirements

Financial Aid

For scholarship or bursary consideration, download, complete and submit the Financial Assistance Form. (pdf)

NOTE: Financial assistance is available for students in need and given in the form of scholarships or bursaries. Scholarships are awarded on merit. Bursaries are awarded on the basis of need. Financial assistance is limited.

Acceptance

Upon acceptance to SOAP and confirmation of attendance, a housing form will be sent to the student. In order to reserve his/her place in SOAP, students must return the following within 21 days of the notification of acceptance:

Scholarship/bursary awards and program acceptance may be forfeited if appropriate forms have not been returned by the end of the twenty-one-day period.

Tuition, Housing & Meal Fees

Tuition, housing and meal fees are due June 1.

Tuition

The tuition fee is $1090 CAD and includes orchestral rehearsals & performances, master classes, private lessons, preparation for orchestral auditions, faculty demonstrations & lectures & all festival concerts.

Housing & Meals

Dormitory and Meals – $890 CAD

Hotel and Meals (based on 2 sharing) – $1290 CAD

Free bus transportation is provided for students between accommodation, rehearsal and performance venues, as well as, the airport, ferry terminal and bus depot on arrival and departure.

NOTE: All fees are payable in Canadian funds. Foreign students not paying by credit card should obtain an International Money Order in Canadian dollars for the payment of fees. All cheques should be made payable to the Powell River Academy of Music (SOAP)

SOAP Payment Form

SOAP reserves the right to expel any student for violations of SOAP policy, city ordinances, or provincial law without refunding any fees paid.

Notice for students from the USA
Passport Information After June 1, 2009 US citizens need a passport or "equivalent" to enter Canada.
